In Bad Memory Eraser, Pfishova turns the alphabet into wreckage. Across a deep, light-drinking black field, hand-stamped letters scatter and tumble like debris shaken loose from language itself — R, Y, T, the half-legible ghosts of MEMORIES, ERASER, TRY, YOUR. They never resolve into a sentence. They behave instead like the contents of a mind under pressure: fragments that surface, insist on being read, and dissolve before they cohere. This is memory as Pfishova knows it — not an archive but a broken typesetter’s tray, its words spilled and unreadable.

Erupting from the right, against the ordered darkness of type, blooms a violent white burst: feathered, breath-like, half snowfall and half detonation. This is the titular eraser caught in the act. But Pfishova refuses the clean comfort of deletion. Her erasure is not a blank — it is an explosion, an organic bloom that obliterates the black ground even as it scars it. To wipe out a bad memory, the painting insists, is not to achieve emptiness; it is to leave a wound in the shape of the thing removed. The white does not restore innocence. It testifies.

The work belongs to Pfishova’s Graphology cycle, where hand-pressed type is freed from meaning and left to speak as pure rhythm, pressure and trace. Yet Bad Memory Eraser pushes the series toward the psychological: the letters are no longer neutral marks but the residue of something lived, and the painterly burst introduces a gesture of the hand — human, urgent, almost desperate — into the cool machinery of the stamp.

Held in her signature achromatic register, the painting stages the central tension of her whole practice: the mind as a system of control, forgetting as an act of violence, and the stubborn refusal of what we try to erase to disappear completely.
