The title reaches back to Baudelaire’s sonnet Correspondances, where nature is “a temple of living pillars” and the passerby moves through “forests of symbols” — a world in which scents, colours and sounds secretly answer one another. Pfishova takes that idea of hidden correspondence and makes it literal and material: a surface woven from script, where handwriting in ochre, black and red drifts across the canvas and phrases surface like overheard thoughts — Create, create, create… Words create worlds… Love is…
At the centre, a braided, tapestry-like knot hangs at the top of the composition and unravels downward into a white cascade, as if the dense weave of language were pouring itself out into the world below. Collaged fragments — grids, letters, architectures — gather at the edges like a city built of words. Here writing is not weapon or evidence but generation: the old belief that to name is to make, that language is the loom on which reality is woven. “Words create worlds” is both the method and the subject.
Correspondences run in every direction — between word and image, sense and sense, the made and the said. Where Graphology usually turns the letter toward control, Correspondances lets it turn toward creation: the same stamped, handwritten mark that can command can also conjure. It is Pfishova’s most affirmative use of text — language caught at the threshold where the word becomes world.
